Back in March, I ordered three bracelets off of eBay, one from one seller and two from a different seller. The estimated delivery date from both sellers gave a window that ended April 27th. ( more of the story here! )
Advice? I don't want to "steal" the bracelets, but they *are* awfully late and I don't know if I want to spend the suspected time and effort trying to sort this out. Although the packages are awfully small so maybe Canada Post misplaced them for a while? (The postmarks do read March 7th and 11th.)

( turns out that I had a lot to say about my water heater )
I'm interested to see how this continues. Reliance got nailed not so long ago for making it ridiculously difficult for customers to cancel their contracts, so I'm not sure if that means they've revamped their services or if they're one of those companies who finds it easier/cheaper to pay millions in fines and just keep breaking the rules.

annnnd, done!
Jan. 2nd, 2016 02:07 pmTwo weeks. Seven seasons.* One hundred sixty-two episodes.** Two movies. Way, way too many hours. And I have made it through my X-Files re-watch.
S1 especially is a blast from the past. Scully's awful suits (with Bonus Shoulder Pads)! Ginormous cell phones! Smoking in government and other public buildings! MICROFICHE!!
I always forget that Mulder really is kind of a condescending jerk most of the time. And Scully really does not like most women, especially if they're personally or professionally threatening. Skinner is more wishy-washy than I remember. KRYCEK!!! I still hate Diana Fowley with the passion of a thousand burning suns (or however that saying goes). And the UST still makes me grin like a fool.
Also, I still have no freaking idea what the heck happened to Samantha.
It's funny how so much time has passed and my favourite episodes are pretty much still my favourite episodes, while the ones I didn't much care for are still generally of low interest to me now. I guess my tastes in television haven't changed all that much in the past two (!!!) decades. Although some scenes in the last bit of S7 take on new meaning when you know M&S hooked up sometime around then. (I am still a little resentful we never actually got to SEE that, btw. Total rip-off, Chris Carter. I put a HELLA lot of time and emotional energy into that relationship and it would've been nice to see the payoff.)
I am now reasonably prepped for The X-Files' return at the end of the month. \o/
*I know there are nine seasons, but I didn't much care for S8 or S9 so I haven't bought them. I may at some point if I can find them for fifteen or twenty bucks. I didn't much care for S7 either but I do so love the ep all things, so.
**for the first seven seasons, if I did the math right (never a guarantee)

WTF???!!? (Help!)
Dec. 27th, 2015 10:57 amWhen I checked my hotmail account this morning, there was a message saying I had signed in to gmail from an unrecognized location at 4:19 this morning. There was a second message with the same timestamp thanking me for adding gmail to my google account, and shows a gmail address that I don't know.
So I followed the 'don't recognize this activity?' link, and they want me to log in. Except when I try to log in with my hotmail address, which is what I've always done, IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MY HOTMAIL ACCOUNT. This is what I use to log in to YouTube, as well, and I cannot log in to YouTube. (Thankfully there's nothing there except playlists, but I am very bothered by this.)
So... suggestions? Because now I can't even log in to fix my security updates....
UPDATE:
I reconnected my hotmail account. When I did that, they still had my password on file. WTF? Or maybe that was firefox's doing. (I have since changed my password on google, and am in the process of changing my hotmail password. Hotmail makes this ridiculously difficult.)
But all of my playlists on YouTube are still deleted. :(
Is there a way to get an actual google-related person to speak to about this? I am disturbed by the attachment of an unknown gmail address to my hotmail account.

Author's Notes: Not the way I think it's really going to end, but.
Thanks as always to

THIS IS RIDICULOUSLY EXCITING
Oct. 19th, 2015 09:37 pmThe map here fills in with the colour of the leading/winning political party as you watch. I love technology.
BUH-BYE, CONSERVATIVES. DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE @$$ ON YOUR WAY OUT.

fall tv review
Oct. 4th, 2015 06:50 pmBefore I start, I'm going to pimp
sparktober, because today we watched four hours of Atlantis and chatted and it was SO MUCH FUN and you should join us next weekend. And also write Sheppard/Weir fic or make a music vid or create a picspam to share, because it's been a lot of years but that pairing is still so epic.
Anyway! I've tried out a few new shows, and a few old ones are back, and I have a few minutes to kill, so. (Broad strokes only; no real spoilers)
Castle: I think I will stop watching, because that was the most ridiculous ending last ep. Seriously, writers?! You butchered that character's, well, character with that ending.
Sleepy Hollow: I approve the new haircuts. And I grinned a few times and it made me happy to watch. Still waiting to see how I feel about the cast changes, though.
Minority Report: Watched the first two eps, and I think that's enough for me. They get bonus points for a more multicultural cast than most shows, but I didn't really connect with any of the characters and it annoys me to no end to have a woman in law enforcement wearing clothing that has her boobs popping out while on duty. Dude, she was more covered in the chest area when she was undercover at a club. WTF?
Blindspot: Has made my list; I quite like this show. When my biggest complaint is that the main male character calls the main female character by her name way more than people use each other's names in real life, then we're good to go. I really like Jane Doe, and Weller's not bad, and Agent Pessimism kind of gets annoying but I suppose someone has to play devil's advocate. And the show was created by Martin Gero, of Atlantis fame, so I have moderate hopes of some familiar faces popping up as guest stars.
Limitless: A cautious go-ahead, but I can see myself losing interest if they're not careful about keeping the storylines fresh. I like the main character so far but he runs the risk of being one-dimensional.
Heroes Reborn: I didn't watch Heroes (I remember "save the cheerleader, save the world" (what was that about, anyway??), and that the cheerleader was blonde, and there was a guy named Hiro (?), but that's it) but I gave the premiere a shot. Since I don't know the backstory I don't know if I'll buy into the sequel, but I like... ack, I forget her name, the Asian girl whoends up in a video game ? And, surprise, Zachary Levi (Chuck Bartowski, Chuck) is one of the actors! So I'll watch a little longer, even if he's not as cute as he was with the floppy hair. ;)
Quantico: I'll watch a couple more episodes before I make a call on this one. I'm not fond of flashback formats, which is how it looks the entire season will play out, and the ending of the premiere seemed rushed and completely unrealistic, but I am curious about the deal with Agent Booth (no, not the one from Bones) so I'm not giving up quite yet.
What about you guys? What shows are you watching, which ones got the cut, which ones are yet to premiere but you're really looking forward to?

My Google-Fu is failing me. (Or, well, my DuckDuckGo-Fu, as I try to keep the internet from spying on me. *shifty eyes*) All I want is a nice, easy-to-read chart or something similar comparing some of the main election points and the stance of each of the four parties (the fourth being the Green Party, because the Bloc Quebecois is kind of restricted to one province, so.). Politics is (are?) hard enough to teach to kids; I just want a " Canadian Federal Election 2015 for Dummies" reference page to help me out!
(Yes, I did actually try that search term. As well as 'for kids' instead of 'for dummies'. And a few other variations.)
(Not to imply that kids are dummies. I was just hopeful there was a page out there for the lazy voter to do some one-stop research.)
(I am SO NERVOUS about this election. 3-way race, pretty much a dead tie! CRAZY.)
Whatever. I give up. Time to read more fic instead. =D

@#$%#$%!!!!
Sep. 11th, 2015 10:46 pmThis household is a street or two away. How has one of his/her/their direct neighbours not called themselves yet?!?!!!! If this person were right next to me, there's no way in hell I'd have put up with it for three and a half hours.
Stupid inconsiderate people.
(They did this on Monday night too, though only for an hour or so. I know because it's the same music (dunno what genre, but it sounds like they've been playing the same effing song the entire night, or at least with the same bass). If it happens again during daylight, then I will go find the address and write it down for future violations.)
ETA: I have calmed down now.
(I would never survive any sort of torture. Clearly no one would even have to lay a hand on me, just play very loud, repetitive sounds for extended periods of time before I'd be ready to crack.)
Aaron Ashmore (Agent Steve Jinks, Warehouse 13) is coming to my city in a few weeks, and I was looking forward to getting one of my WH13 DVD box sets signed. But it turns out that he charges $45 for each autographs and photo ops, and I like him/Jinks, but not that much. :|
Ah well. If I swing my lunch break just right I might be able to attend his panel, at least.
In unrelated news, how is it this dark at 8:20pm?!?
WINTER IS COMING.

Aug. 21st, 2015 08:44 pmLast night, I stayed up ALL. NIGHT. LONG. reading Atlantis fanfic (I grabbed about an hour, maybe an hour and a half's worth of napping late this morning), and watched nine S2 Atlantis eps today, and even though it's past 8:30, I just put a pizza in the oven because, hey, I feel like eating pizza.
This? Is part of the reason why I'm perfectly happy being single and childless. I can do what I want, when I want, and not have to answer to or worry about anyone as long as I'm not neglecting the important/necessary stuff.
(My rebellions are small.)

adventures in transportation; politics
Aug. 7th, 2015 06:15 pmI had a 2pm doctor's appointment today. ( It takes me two busses to get to the clinic. )
In Canadian political news, apparently our current prime minister is hoping to appeal to the younger generation by promising not to tax Netflix or YouTube. Apparently this is worthy of making his platform? Even though no one even knew it was a possible thing. #NoNetflixTax ftw! /sarcasm (Also, if the Conservatives don't stop making comments about Trudeau's hair, I am going to assume that Harper is actually really, really jealous that Trudeau has such nice hair and that the ads are therefore motivated purely by jealousy.) (And isn't it weird that spellcheck isn't tripping over Trudeau's name? I think it's weird. Is it weird?)
In American political news, if Donald Trump actually gets voted in as the Republican candidate, I will NEVER, EVER STOP MOCKING AMERICANS. EVER. And if he somehow gets elected as president, I am moving to, like, Australia, because we are too close for comfort with an idiot like that in charge of nuclear weapons.
Happy Friday, folks!

you know it's been a cold winter when
Feb. 27th, 2015 09:13 pmI checked the temperature this morning, as I normally do, so I would know how to dress for walking to and waiting for the bus. My internal dialogue went something like, "Oh, only -20? Don't need my snowpants or scarf today."
IT HAS BEEN MUCH TOO COLD IF I AM DESCRIBING -20 AS 'ONLY'.
(We apparently broke six individual records for coldest days this month, and then February itself was the coldest on record since they started recording hereabouts back in 1940.)
(And yes, I wear snowpants when it's cold enough.)
(Also, I don't care that spellcheck thinks 'snowpants' should be separate words. NOT IN CANADA, EH.)

The grade 4s are learning about medieval times, and today we talked a little about the Crusades. Now, I teach at a school with a reasonably high Muslim population, so I never really know what kind of reaction I'll get. Most of the time, nothing.
Today, one of my students was quite offended to hear that some Muslims of the time were involved in the fighting. A small, paraphrased excerpt of our conversation:
Me: It wasn't all Muslims who were involved. It's kind of like today, with ISIS or ISIL. Most Muslims are kind, thoughtful, and peaceful, but unfortunately there's a group who isn't.
Student: Oh, I get it. I just want to tell them, Guys, I get that you want to spread Islam, but this isn't the way to do it.
It's a sad state of affairs when a ten-year-old has more reason than a group of adults. Or maybe it's a hopeful one, because this is the generation coming up.
**
In other news, work is falling apart, I got a free chocolate-chip pancake, and I added a couple hundred words to my fic last night. \o/

so. much. glee.
Feb. 16th, 2015 09:30 pmI HAVE WRITTEN most of A FIC!!! *happy dance*
It's been a really long time since I last wrote fic, and whenever I get writer's block I forget how very much I love writing. And it's not like it's great literature or anything, but I WROTE FIC. And it makes me happy. So very, very happy.
Now, if only I can figure out what the missing few scenes are, then I can finish it, polish it up, and post it before canon screws me over. Heh.
In spite of the icon, it's not that kind of fic. PG at most. Just so's ya know.
